What is the expected List of Values display behavior in Web Intelligence documents when refreshing?

This applies to the following products:

SAP Business Intelligence Platform 4.0 Support Pack 10 and newer
SAP Business Intelligence Platform 4.1 Support Pack 04 and newer

Throughout the different versions of BI 4, the behavior has not been entirely consistent when Lists of values would auto refresh for prompts within Web Intelligence documents. This Document will attempt to list the current expected behaviors and will be updated should they change with new product releases going forward.

The following are all correct statements for expected behavior for BI 4.0 Support Pack 10 and BI 4.1 Support Pack 04 and newer releases.

- For Web Intelligence documents created on BICS data sources:
  
  For a mandatory SAP variable, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed
  
  For an optional SAP variable, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed
  
  For a mandatory prompt created in the WebI query panel:
  
  If the Query Filter prompt is based on a hierarchy, the LOV WILL be automatically refreshed and displayed
  
  If the Query Filter prompt is based on a Dimension, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed
  
  For an optional prompt created in the WebI query panel, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed

For Web Intelligence documents created on BICS data sources:

For a mandatory SAP variable, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed

For an optional SAP variable, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed

For a mandatory prompt created in the WebI query panel:

If the Query Filter prompt is based on a hierarchy, the LOV WILL be automatically refreshed and displayed

If the Query Filter prompt is based on a Dimension, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed

For an optional prompt created in the WebI query panel, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed

The "Refresh Values" button will not be active when the Query Filter prompt is based on a Dimension created from a BW Characteristic. It is required to use the search functionality to locate values. In this scenario, wildcard operators can be used and * will return all values.

For Web Intelligence documents created on other data sources:

For a mandatory prompt created in the WebI query panel, the LOV WILL be automatically refreshed and displayed

For an optional prompt created in the WebI query panel, the LOV will NOT be automatically refreshed and displayed
